Retail Inventory Auditor I

Position Summary:

Monitor all financial cost billing (FCB) and gross profit activities for a division. Provide accurate item cost on store inventories. Demonstrate the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Review and finalize store physical inventory count results in Inventory Reconciliation System ensuring proper pending of charges/credits for accurate inventory and shrink valuations
  • Identify and report out to sr. manager systemic, operational, and procedural opportunities that inhibit FCB gross profit accuracy
  • Maintain perpetual inventories for merchandising departments by keeping store perpetual reports in sync with the general ledger and properly valued
  • Validate that all system feeds and manual uploads to store charges are reconciled and properly classified
  • Balance general ledger accounts weekly
  • Review weekly generated FCB reports and associated data to monitor the accuracy of reported gross profits and take action to resolve incorrect sales, inventory and/or costs, develop and implement procedures to prevent the same future problem occurrences
  • Review nonperishable and perishable inventory counts processed through FCB for clerical errors and system setup issues
  • Review units and costing of perishable inventory counts in Perishable Inventory Reconciliation, adjusting as needed, and finalize for processing store perpetual reports
  • Audit shipped vs. scanned and inventory difference reports to determine shrink and item movement issues
  • Build collaborative relationship, in partnership with manager, with key stakeholders to cross-functionally determine FCB issues
  • Correct issues with sales, store charges, beginning/ending inventory, shrink, gross margin and markup
  • Utilize enterprise manual and system processes that affect the accurate setup of items including Direct Store Delivery
  • Travel to divisions, offices or stores to assist with system and process training
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation

Minimum Position/Education Qualifications:

  • Knowledgeable in accounting and/or experience with cost billing, inventory management or merchandising
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, high change environment while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to take prompt action to accomplish objectives and take action to achieve goals beyond what is required; being proactive and following up to ensure completion.
  • Ability to prioritize job functions
  • Highly organized, self-directed and proficient at multi-tasking.
  • Proven ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of files, conversations and documents
  • Ability to travel with management

Desired Previous Job Experience:

  • 2+ years of accounting experience
  • Working knowledge of retail accounting systems
  • Working knowledge of Kroger internal systems (e.g., FCB, CAO, point of sale, scales, shelf tags, PID, loyalty, data integrity and after inventory)
