Deli Department Manager

Position Summary:

Implement all company and division policies to achieve maximum sales and profits in the Deli Department. Role model and demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety of others.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Train and schedule employees so that customers are consistently provided with prompt courteous service.
  • Respond promptly, tactfully, calmly, courteously, and professionally to customer or associate comments, complaints, requests, accidents, and questions.
  • Keep department temperature logs accurately updated and maintained. Train and follow up with Deli associates on temperature logs to guarantee accurately recorded temperatures.
  • Use Computer Assisted Ordering to manage ordering appropriate quantities of merchandise and supplies, and insure proper accounting of product received and balance on hand.
  • Give special attention to: eye-appealing displays, full and/or faced shelves, correct and legible pricing, store security, cleanliness of product and shelves, product space allocation according to movement, and keeping floor, shelf, and areas clean and orderly.
  • Maintain adequate stock and supplies through proper ordering to meet shrink goals. Use proper rotation.
  • Maintain and submit required records and reports and use them effectively.
  • Insure all work complies with company standards relating to sanitation and safety.
  • Evaluate your department continually-space allocation, design, display, price-marking, rotation, inventories, and associates-and make changes or recommendations to the store manager.
  • Demonstrate the ability and desire to promote, communicate and implement company initiatives and process improvements to direct reports in a positive manner.
  • Ability to make intelligent decisions quickly.
  • Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Willing to work weekends and holidays.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to tactfully and calmly handle stressful situations and make a positive impression on associates and customers.
  • Demonstrated aptitude to manage people and organize workloads.
  • Possess abilities and skills for effective production, merchandising and customer services related to sale of merchandise.
  • Understanding of all key components of department operations
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to employment practices, safety, and food handling.
  • Must be able to work with various cleaning solutions, safely use sharp tools, and carefully operate slicing equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of all phases of deli operation and experience working in all areas of deli is required.

Desired Previous Job Experience:

  • Deli work experience or similar experience.
  • Past work record reflects dependability and integrity.
