District Merchandising Manager

Position Summary:

Primary leadership responsibility is to create a friendly customer experience through exceptional service by highly satisfying each customer’s needs and exceeding their expectations. Create a culture of inspired and companion selling throughout each store that touches the customer’s five senses. Ensure the execution of corporate merchandising initiatives and standards. Provide feedback on the effectiveness of merchandising or operational plans/programs. Demonstrate the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety of others.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist store management, department leaders and associates in achieving a favorable customer shopping experience and increasing associate interest in customer service/relations enhancing the company’s reputation as the best merchant in the retail food industry
  • Utilize inspired and companion selling in each store by instructing and training associates in the proper use of display space, special/seasonal merchandising and following through on the implementation of store sets to provide proper allocation, variety and freshness
  • Instruct and train store management and department leaders in proper ordering, execution of sales plan, implementation and development of product mix to support consistent sales, profit and tonnage growth
  • Responsible for effectively sustaining all best practices including food safety and sanitation
  • Ensure that required division methods of handling, receiving, storage, conditioning, pricing, stocking and rotating products are implemented by coaching and training associates
  • Analyze and respond to the competitive landscape within the district
  • Promote and support strong relationships with local community organizations
  • Provide guidance to the store manager, merchandising assistant store manager and district manager on the strengths and developmental opportunities of associates
  • Provide timely feedback to department leaders and store management on their individual and department performance
  • Observe and coach associates on safe behaviors
  • Achieve a satisfactory level of technical and professional skills/knowledge for this position and stay current with developments and trends
  • Ensure associates and locations comply with applicable laws and regulation
  • Supervise and coach direct reports on the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • 3+ years’ management experience
  • Strong skills in leadership, interpersonal relationship building and the development of others
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with committees and peer groups
  • Strong analytical, conflict management and problem resolution skills
  • Experience successfully identifying, adopting and leading change initiatives
  • Proven success facilitating meetings varying in size and scope
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and effective listening skills
  • Ability to learn and enhance knowledge and skills in various job related areas
  • Ability to recognize and protect highly confidential information
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to travel independently (<10%)

Desired Previous Job Experience & Education:

  • Store Manager (2+ years)
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • District Operations Manager, District Human Resources Manager, District Coordinator
  • Completion of management development programs
  • Merchandising experience
