Transportation Manager - Logistics Monroe OH, Fulfillment Center

Position Summary:

Provide transportation and freight management leadership, guidance, and support to all company manufacturing operations. Focus on reducing overall manufacturing transportation expense and improving delivery service. Incorporate manufacturing plant freight management responsibility into the Regional Freight Management Centers.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop carrier procurement strategies and enforce Kroger transportation policies and procedures for manufacturing freight across the enterprise.
  • Lead process to identify transportation and freight synergies in "our network" between manufacturing plants, division retail distribution centers (DC's), Peyton DC's, consolidation and cross-dock centers, and produce networks and develop plans to implement.
  • Leverage total freight volume companywide to lower transportation expense and improve service.
  • Oversee carrier selection and carrier relationship management.
  • Negotiate freight rates, direct assessorial policies, and provide Over Short and Damage (OS & D) resolution on disputed claims management.
  • Promote the movement of merchandise on the company's available dedicated fleet resources when lower costs and/or improvised service will result.
  • Partner with Regional Accounting Services Center (RASC) and Corporate Manufacturing Accounting, to understand processes and procedures. Gain working knowledge of the on-going Match-Pay project. Identify and streamline any process for flow of invoices thru RASC and CASS.
  • Evaluate additional transportation modes
  • Manage Manufacturing DSD program: carriers, freight bids, negotiations, and policies
  • Responsible for Manufacturing's DSD Fuel Surcharge program.
  • Scope, evaluate design improvements, and bid Manufacturing Plants local trailer spotting and shuttle needs
  • Partner with the Kroger Regional Freight Management Centers and affiliated companies and groups
  • Provide freight rates to Merchandisers and Buyers at General Office, Manufacturing, and affiliated companies

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • 5 years experience with progressive responsibilities in a logistics/transportation environment.
  • Extensive experience in transportation Direct Store Delivery (DSD), freight hauling, and manufacturing plant operations.
  • Experience with logistics analysis with a minimum of 2 years supply chain experience in retail delivery transportation route planning and developing efficient store delivery schedules.
  • Ability to work flexible hours - nights and weekends.
  • Highly analytical with the ability to understand and resolve complex operational issues
  • Proficient in (TMS) Transportation Management System and Routing Systems, Procurement applications, and Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent Accounting skills
  • Excellent communication, leadership and project management skills. Ability to lead and motivate individuals from a wide variety of functional backgrounds
  • Team oriented leadership experience
  • Ability to travel independently 40%
