The Kroger team is looking for a Sr. Data Engineer experienced in implementing data solutions in Azure. The Sr Data Engineer will lead intiatives to analyze, design and develop enterprise data and information architecture deliverables, focusing on data as an asset for the enterprise. The Sr. Data Engineer will also lead the implementation of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) by working with teams to help engineer scalable, reliable, and resilient software running in the cloud.

Position Summary

Accountable for proactively and holistically leading activities that create deliverables to guide the direction, development, and delivery of technological responses to targeted business outcomes. Provide facilitation, analysis and design tasks required for the development of an enterprise's data and information architecture, focusing on data as an asset for the enterprise. Develop target-state guidance (i.e., reusable standards, design patterns, guidelines, individual parts and configurations) to evolve the technical infrastructure related to data and information across the enterprise, including direct collaboration with 84.51. Demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety.

Essential Job Functions

Innovate and drive development and communication of data strategy and roadmaps across the technology organization to support project portfolio and business strategy

Provide leadership to ensure clarity between ongoing projects and the strategic objectives of the company

Drive development and communication of enterprise standards for data domains and data solutions

Drive digital innovation by leveraging innovative new technologies and approaches to renovate, extend, and transform the existing core data assets, including SQL-based, NoSQL-based, and Cloud-based data platforms

Define high-level migration plans to address the gaps between the current and future state, typically in sync with the budgeting or other capital planning processes

Present opportunities with cost/benefit analysis to leadership to shape sound architectural decisions

Lead the analysis of the technology environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement

Mentor team members

Promote the reuse of data assets, including the management of the data catalog for reference

Draft and review architectural diagrams, interface specifications and other design documents

Minimum Position Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field

10+ years experience in the data development and principles including end-to-end design patterns

10+ years designing and delivering large scale, high quality operational or analytical data systems

10+ years experience taking a lead role in building complex data solutions that have been successfully delivered to customers

Any experience driving evolutionary change in data solutions and underlying technologies

Excellent oral/written communication skills

Ability to think and contribute at the strategic level

Understanding of network and data security architecture

Knowledge in a minimum of 3 below: data warehousing, big data management, analytics development, data science, application programming interfaces (APIs), data integration, cloud, servers and storage, and database manage

Desired Previous Experience/Education

Any experience with SSAS Tabular models, Power BI, Dataflows and DAX

Any experience with Azure Data Platform stack: Azure Data Lake, Data Factory and Databricks

Any experience with Python, Spark and SQL

Any experience with streaming technologies like Kafka, IBM MQ and EventHub

Any experience in data science solutions or platforms.

Any experience with operational data science, machine learning or artificial intelligence solutions

Any experience with a variety of SQL, NoSQL and Big Data Platforms

Any experience building solutions using elastic architectures (preferably Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform)
