Position Summary:

Provide servant-leadership and mentorship to a cross-functional agile team while serving as an Agile role model. Apply Lean/Agile principles and frameworks (e.g., Scrum, Kanban Method and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)) to guide/serve teams that deliver technology solutions. Demonstrate the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Facilitate multiple agile team’s organization and ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily scrums/stand-ups, sprint/iteration reviews/demos and retrospectives
  • Coach team members on Agile values/principles, such as collaboration, prioritization, team accountability, self-organization and transparency
  • Identify and remove any impediments/distractions that interfere with the team’s ability to deliver against their commitments
  • Facilitate the creation and adoption of working agreements and definitions of done, including the use of appropriate tools, standards and best practices
  • Ensure the Kroger Technology team tracks and communicates team progress and metrics to the appropriate audiences
  • Support/empower the Kroger Technology team to make appropriate commitments through story selection and task definition
  • Contribute to Kroger’s agile transformation across the enterprise by participating in continuous improvement (e.g., inspect and adapt cycles, retrospectives, etc.), providing training and serving as a coach/mentor to others within Kroger
  • Coordinate, communicate, drive and deliver complex solutions with associates outside of the direct Agile teams, including business management, third-party vendors, shared services and technology management
  • Encourage quality practices to ensure components, services and applications delivered by the Kroger Technology team meet performance expectations, allow for graceful degradation and are appropriately scalable for Kroger’s expected growth pattern
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • 2 years’ experience serving as an active scrum master
  • Knowledge and practical experience of agile software development methodologies, values, principles, and practices
  • Strong self-motivation and the leadership skills needed to coach/empower a team to reach their highest potential
  • Excellent team player and team builder
  • Ability to communicate/collaborate with associates at all levels of the organization and with diverse personality types
  • Ability to build a high-performing team while managing interpersonal conflicts, challenges and opportunities for growth
  • Ability to understand technical issues at a high level and work with minimal supervision in a very dynamic and time sensitive work environment
  • Exceptional communication, organization, time management, analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail
  • Ability to serve multiple agile teams and contribute to agile adoption/transformation initiatives

Desired Previous Job Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related program
  • 3 years’ experience in a software development organization
  • Agile Certification (Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM))
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) experience
  • Experience with Atlassian tools, such as JIRA Agile and Confluence
