Maintenance Automation Mechanic

Position Summary:

Ensure reliability, efficiency and safe operations of the automated system. Provide technical leadership. Train, troubleshoot, direct, and control all related activities to facilitate peak throughput with trained automation technicians. Direct and coordinate timely recovery from automation outages as well as preventative maintenance and emergency repairs. Essential Job Functions:

  • Pinpoint electrical, mechanical and PLC (programmable logic controller) fault; analyze and institute recovery
  • Determine the cost of PPM (planned preventative maintenance) tasks. Establish work measurement techniques while determining the effectiveness of the required improvements
  • Manage the emergency response of automation downtime periods
  • Perform analyses to determine the root cause of the most critical and repetitive failures
  • Troubleshoot and install electrical/mechanical components with AC up to 400/480 volts and DC up to 24 volts
  • Read wiring diagrams and assess electrical measurements
  • Lead the identification, selection, skills assessment, training, performance evaluation and development for automation technicians
  • Physical demands include, but are not limited to, climbing to heights of 40 feet and lifting up to 30 pounds
  • Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties, complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports
  • Must be able perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation

Minimum Position Qualifications/Education: 

  • 5+ years of hands on programmable logic circuits (PLC) troubleshooting and repair experience
  • Working knowledge of maintenance management software
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical systems
  • Possess excellent organizational, supervisory/leadership skills
  • Communicate effectively with operations management

Desired Previous Job Experience/Education:

  • Degree in engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of experience working with automated material handling systems, including PLC conveyor systems and/or PC based stacker cranes
  • 5+ years of experience with automated conveyor preventative maintainence and material handling equipment
  • Phoenix Interbus training
  • Training in Witron automation systems
  • Experience with automation start up
