Corp Food Tech Fresh and Produce Food Safety Quality Manager

Position Summary

Leverage technical expertise and leadership to assure safety and quality of Produce Kroger branded and Fresh Kitchen products. Work closely with and monitor farms, packing houses, distribution centers and fresh food facilities to maintain relevant Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) certification. Ensure all labeling and packaging meets legal requirements. Demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety.

Essential Job Functions

  • Ensure food safety/quality plans for all processes at fresh food facilities; including inspection plans, product testing protocols and methodologies
  • Oversee field team that performs regulatory food safety, sanitation compliance/quality systems audits at supply chain operations/facilities, issue written reports, assist in developing improvement plans and monitor progress against objectives
  • Oversee field team/production facility's root cause/corrective action processes to ensure timely completion and thorough analysis of root cause/corrective actions; ensure effective implementation of sustainable changes to prevent reoccurrence
  • Develop/maintain appropriate GFSI scheme policies, procedures, training materials, logs, documentation, certificates of analysis, product specification sheets and records to ensure certification standards are met
  • Analyze customer comments; partner with facilities to resolve product quality and food safety issues
  • Collaborate with product development teams to maintain/improve finished product specifications
  • Compile/analyze statistical data and product specification information to determine standards; help establish finished product quality/reliability expectations
  • Ensure effective environmental monitoring programs are established and followed
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement
  • Accountable to the Kroger Manufacturing Food Safety and Quality Principles
  • Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties: complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports

  • Minimum Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in food science technology, dairy science, bakery science, food microbiology or related field
  • HACCP certification, PCQI, internal auditor training or related functions
  • 5+ years of experience in quality assurance and food safety/quality systems in fresh food prep or manufacturing
  • Any experience and expertise to validate changes to food safety fundamentals, food safety plans and food quality plans that impact the Kroger manufacturing network's ability to deliver, safe quality food
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills
  • Excellence in project management, problem solving and execution
  • Advanced knowledge in food microbiology, refrigerated foods, U.S. Department of Agriculture USDA regulations, specialty ingredients or supplement regulations
  • Ability to provide leadership to promote quality concepts/principles and to develop/administer the Kroger Co. Quality Management System
  • Desired Previous Experience/Education

  • CQA
  • Any experience with statistical process control (SPC) and Lean/Six Sigma
  • Any experience implementing/maintaining robust quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001, 22000, SQF, BRC)
  • Proficient with product lifecycle management (PLM), Redzone, MS Teams, othe4r LIMS systems and SharePoint
